How College Park grew
The area began as citrus groves in the late 1800s. Growth took off in the 1920s land boom, when the City of Orlando moved its northern boundary to Par Street and developers platted subdivisions such as Rosemere (1921), Dubsdread (1923), Edgewater Heights (1924) and Anderson Park (1924). Many vacant lots west of Edgewater Drive were built on after World War II. In the 1950s, Ardsley Manor was laid out on the western shore of Lake Silver with larger lots and homes than the older sections.
The Jack Kerouac house at 1418 Clouser Avenue, where the writer lived when On the Road was published, now runs as a nonprofit writers' residence.
Edgewater Drive and The Drive Main Street
College Park's commercial strip is one of the City of Orlando's Main Street districts, branded The Drive and run by a nonprofit with its own executive director. The city describes local shops, restaurants and small businesses, bungalow-style homes, and brick, tree-lined streets. The district holds events through the year, and the College Park Neighborhood Association runs a historic homes tour each fall.
If you want to be close to Edgewater Drive, visit during an event and at a weekday rush hour to judge noise and parking on the street.

- Dartmouth Park, 822 Dartmouth Street: just over 3 acres with a playground, pavilions and an exercise course. Parking is limited to side streets.
- College Park Neighborhood Center and Pool, 2393 Elizabeth Avenue, next to Princeton Park: city recreation programs, a fitness room and a pool.
- Dubsdread Golf Course, 549 West Par Street: a course dating from 1924 that reopened in 2008 after renovation.
Lake Silver's park and lake access along Bryn Mawr is private to Ardsley Manor residents, so check which access rights come with a specific home.
